The Commander of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, Commodore Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering transparency and strengthening ties with the media. He made this pledge while hosting a media parley at the naval base, which brought together key stakeholders in the media industry and senior naval officers.
The event was attended by representatives from prominent media organizations, including NewsFlash 247, Channels Television, Vanguard Media Limited, ThisDay Newspaper, Punch Newspaper, Daily Trust, Daily Sun Newspaper, among others. Senior officers from the base were also present, underscoring the importance of the engagement.
In his address, Commodore Nimmyel emphasized the crucial role of journalists in ensuring accurate information dissemination, urging them to help curb the spread of misinformation that could mislead the public. He assured the media of an open-door policy and encouraged them to view the Navy as a strategic partner in securing Nigeria’s waterways and protecting the nation’s maritime domain.
Expressing his appreciation for their presence, the Commander reiterated his commitment to a cordial working relationship with the press. The parley concluded with a vote of thanks delivered on behalf of the journalists by Evelyn Usman of Vanguard Newspaper. This was followed by a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
