Two suspected bandits and a cattle rustler have been apprehended by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after fleeing the Magami area of Zamfara State.

According to Ikor Oche, a spokesman for the NSCDC in Zamfara, they escaped as a result of recent military assaults on bandit camps in the state.

During a press conference in Gusau on Tuesday, he confirmed the arrest, saying the suspects were apprehended the day before at the State Mass Transit Motor Park in Gusau.

Hussaini Altine, who was arrested alongside his elder brother, Abubakar, on Monday morning while attempting to board a vehicle leaving for Taraba to join other members who had already relocated, was identified as one of the suspects by Oche, a Deputy Superintendent Cadre (DSC).

“On the 27th of December 2021, one Hussaini Altine, a 40-year-old male, was also apprehended by Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps men who had been following them for some time.

“He was arrested with an elderly mother and an older brother, Abubakar Altine, at the Zamfara State Mass Transit Motor Park,” he said.

Hussaini was one of a group of bandits who attacked communities in Kurya, Bagawuri, Agamalafiya, and Rijiya, according to the command spokesman.

Tukur Halilu, a notorious cattle rustler who was arrested while on his way to Niger State, was the other suspect, according to him.

Halilu admitted to rustling many cattle in various Zamfara villages in his confession.

According to Oche, the suspects were subjected to a thorough investigation in order to apprehend more suspects involved in banditry and cattle rustling in the state.

Assorted charms and sharp horns, among other things, were recovered from the suspects.
