On Thursday, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos discovered an illegal mining site.

Eweka Okoro, the Commandant, led the agency’s personnel to the location in Ikorodu’s Ijede axis.

The miners were discovered to be illegally mining soil from large hectares of land where telecommunication masts and power lines were planted.

The operatives also discovered equipment, including three caterpillars, that the miners were thought to be using for their activities.

Okoro warned those who engage in illegal activities that endanger public health and critical public assets to stop.
“The Command will not rest on its oars to ensure that illegal mining sites are shut and protect pipelines, telecommunications infrastructure and other national assets,” he said.

NSCDC CG Ahmed Audi had directed State Commandants to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) belonging to Federal, State, and Local Governments.
