The Ogun State Police Command has warned against unlawful assembly in Sagamu as “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe” recorded major breakthroughs, including the arrest of 156 suspects linked to recent disturbances and criminal activities.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni, speaking through the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, at the Sagamu Divisional Headquarters on Tuesday, said the Command will not tolerate any form of unlawful assembly, violent protest, or actions capable of disrupting public peace. He stressed that while citizens have the right to express grievances, such expressions must be carried out within the law. Any resort to self-help, obstruction of public roads, or attack on public institutions will be met with the full weight of the law, he said.
On April 7, 2026, the Command responded to a disturbance by a group of commercial motorcycle riders who unlawfully blocked Oba Erinwole GRA Road in Sagamu, impeding movement. Police operatives dispersed the assembly, but the group later mobilised to the Vehicle Inspection Office and the TRACE Office in Sotubo and disrupted activities at the Sotubo Health Centre, affecting essential services.
Following intensified intelligence gathering and coordinated joint operations, the Command arrested 10 principal suspects linked to the incident. The suspects have since been charged to court, and intelligence from them guided further tactical operations.
In continuation of those efforts, operatives of the Sagamu Area Command, alongside sister security agencies and community stakeholders, carried out an intelligence-led raid in the early hours of April 13, 2026, targeting identified criminal flashpoints in Sagamu. The joint exercise involved the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria. A total of 146 suspects were arrested during the operation.
All suspects are undergoing screening, and those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner said the Command is fully prepared, strategically positioned, and operationally equipped to deal decisively with any act of lawlessness. He added that there will be no hiding place for individuals or groups intent on undermining public peace.
CP Ojajuni commended the Sagamu Local Government and traditional rulers in the area for their cooperation and support, describing their partnership as instrumental to the successes recorded. He also praised the professionalism and synergy of all participating security agencies.
He urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies, and to channel grievances through lawful means.
