The Ogun State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs against armed robbery and vehicle theft in Abeokuta and environs after coordinated intelligence-led operations by the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State CID, Eleweran. Three suspects were arrested: Ismaila Israel Sokunbi, 38; Kayode Adeyemi, 37, identified as the suspected kingpin; and Kola Taiwo, 55. Police also recovered a stolen Toyota Corolla and several exhibits linked to criminal activities.
The first operation followed a distress report at Obantoko Division on May 22, 2026, about an armed robbery attempt at Oniyo Community, Arokoje, Obantoko. The suspects crashed the victim’s vehicle into a fence while fleeing and abandoned an Infinix phone and Wema Bank ATM card. Telecom analysis led to Sokunbi’s arrest on May 26 in Oke-Jigbo and Isale Abese areas. A search of his home yielded new household items, SIM cards, suspected charms, and tools used to tamper with vehicle ignitions. Further investigation led to Adeyemi’s arrest in Ibadan, Oyo State. Both suspects confessed to the attempted robbery and admitted membership of a syndicate behind multiple vehicle thefts in Abeokuta.
In a second case, Anti-Robbery Squad operatives acting on intelligence arrested Taiwo, 55, and recovered a Toyota Corolla stolen at Osiele on May 18, 2026. He reportedly used master keys to steal vehicles in the Osiele axis and also confessed to stealing a green Toyota Camry earlier. The suspect remains in custody and will be charged after investigations. Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni commended the operatives for their intelligence-driven approach and reaffirmed zero tolerance for violent crime.
