The Ogun State Police Command has debunked a viral video circulating on social media that purports to show armed bandits operating in a forest in the state, describing the content as false, misleading, and recycled. Preliminary findings and fact-checks revealed the footage, which shows individuals cooking in a bush setting, was recorded in Kenya during a General Service Unit operation involving cattle rustlers and first uploaded online in 2022.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, condemned the spread of the unverified video, noting it was deliberately recirculated to create panic and misinform the public about security in Ogun. He emphasized that there is no intelligence or operational report supporting claims of any such criminal presence within forests or any part of the state, adding that the Command remains committed to safety through intelligence-led policing and strategic deployments.
The CP urged residents to disregard the video and avoid sharing unverified information capable of inciting fear or disrupting public peace. He advised the public to rely only on official channels for security updates and to report suspicious activities via the Command’s emergency lines. CP Ojajuni warned that spreading false and inciting content will not be tolerated.
