Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued five students of Gateway Polytechnic, Sapade, who were abducted by armed criminals in the Sapade area on 27 April 2026. Ipara Division received a distress report at about 10:55 p.m. and deployed a patrol team that discovered an abandoned ash-coloured Toyota vehicle with bullet impacts, blood stains, mobile phones, and an identity card confirming the occupants were students. The discovery triggered an immediate, full-scale rescue operation.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni ordered an intelligence-led response, mobilizing tactical units including Isara Area Command, Ipara Division, SWAT, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Violent Crime Response Unit, Quick Response Squad, and OP MESA. The coordinated bush combing and tracking operations along suspected escape routes mounted sustained pressure on the abductors. During the rescue on 28 April 2026, the kidnappers engaged operatives in a gun duel but were overwhelmed by superior firepower and fled with suspected gunshot wounds. No security personnel were injured.
All five victims were rescued, evacuated, debriefed, and taken for medical attention due to conditions sustained in captivity. CP Ojajuni commended the gallantry and professionalism of the units involved, noting that the intelligence-driven response was decisive. He said bush combing operations are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects, and urged the public to report suspicious movements to the nearest police formation or via the Command’s emergency lines.
