The Ogun State Police Command has secured the conviction of one Samson Okonkwo for dealing in counterfeit electrical cables bearing the Coleman brand.
Okonkwo was arraigned alongside others still at large on April 10, 2025, on four counts of conspiracy, forgery, unlawful possession and fraudulent sale of fake Coleman cables in Akute. The prosecution tendered 317 coils of counterfeit cables as exhibits. On September 24, 2026, Magistrate O. P. Mobee of the Ojodu Abiodun Magisterial District found him guilty and sentenced him under the Merchandise Marks Act.
CP Bode Ojajuni lauded the conviction, warning that fake electrical products endanger lives and property. He urged residents to be cautious when buying electrical items and to report suspected counterfeits, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to fighting economic crimes.
