Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, claims that Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), never promoted the ‘Igbo presidency’ to him.
Sowore stated in a recent interview on Superscreen TV, which was monitored, that during his meeting with Kanu in New York, USA, in July 2019, the separatist leader only stressed “justice” for his people.

“Nnamdi Kanu never said anywhere that the East is looking for the presidency of Nigeria,” Sowore said in response to a question about why he is not supporting a presidential candidate from the East (apparently speaking of Peter Obi of the Labour Party).
“There was no conversation between me and him in which he says ‘Sowore, we (the Igbos) want to be president of Nigeria’. Never.”
He further said that he is in the 2023 presidential race because “my ideals are about substance”.
