Renowned haematologist and geneticist, Prof. Adeyinka Gladys Falusi, has received the prestigious ‘Role Model Award’ from the Hallmarks of Labour Foundation for her outstanding contributions to medical research and national development. The award was presented on Saturday, 18 April 2026, during the Foundation’s 29th anniversary celebrations at Lagos Oriental Hotel, attended by academics, professionals, and industry leaders.
HLF Executive Secretary, Chief Mrs Patricia Otuedon-Arawore, said the award recognises individuals whose professional achievements have significantly impacted national development and who serve as “Great Nigerian Role Models” for future generations. The recognition highlights Prof. Falusi’s pioneering work in human genetics, particularly her research on Sickle Cell Disease and Alpha Thalassaemia, which has advanced healthcare in Nigeria and beyond. She was commended for her integrity, dedication, and lasting impact on global health.
In her citation, Prof. Oladapo A. Ashiru, former President of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Nigeria, described Falusi as a trailblazer who advanced human genetics and healthcare delivery across Africa while mentoring generations of professionals. Former President of the Nigerian Academy of Science, Anya O. Anya, called her an icon of excellence and a milestone for Women in Science. Chairman of the occasion, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, noted that the HLF honour is reserved for individuals who have reached the pinnacle of their careers with exemplary character. Prof. Falusi said the award validates years of sacrifice and called for greater inclusion of women in leadership across academia and research. She joins past recipients including Grace Alele-Williams, T. Y. Danjuma, and Chief Anyaoku.
