Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says deliberate parenting, moral guidance, and active involvement in children’s lives are the bedrock of responsible citizenship.
Speaking through Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat at the 2026 Eid-Ul-Adha event in Alausa, Ikeja, he urged parents to dedicate more time to raising children with religious, moral, and academic instruction. He pointed to Prophet Ibrahim’s virtues of obedience, sacrifice, and devotion as a model for families today.
Sanwo-Olu noted that parents must engage their children, respect their views, and teach values like tolerance, mutual respect, and open dialogue. He stressed that training children in faith, discipline, and regard for human life helps curb social vices, since life is a divine trust. The Governor also highlighted Lagos State’s interventions through agencies tackling domestic violence, family disputes, and other issues affecting homes and communities.
First Lady Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu said the Eid season calls for reflection on faith, sacrifice, and submission to Allah, while unity and tolerance remain Lagos’ strengths. Lekki Central Mosque Chief Imam, Imam Dr. Ridwan Jamiu, in his lecture, urged parents to create peaceful, God-fearing homes and listen to their children to build confidence and prevent domineering attitudes. He added that instilling good morals and the fear of God will raise future leaders who can impact society positively.
