Suspects have named Rochas Okorocha, the senator representing Imo West, and Uche Nwosu, the former governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), as sponsors of kidnapping and banditry in the state, according to the Imo State Government.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Oguwike Nwachuku, Chief Press Secretary to the state’s governor, Hope Uzodimma, revealed this.
He claimed the two were funding the state’s violence.
They are fueling “kidnapping, banditry, arson, and cannibalism,” according to the spokesman.
Nwachuku claimed they had been spreading rumors about the alleged arrest of Uzodimma’s security officers.
The goal, he said, was to derail the governor’s pledge to reveal the identities of those responsible for insecurity and other forms of criminality in Imo.
At a stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday, Nwachuku said the governor would name the sponsors of banditry and kidnapping in the state.
“For the avoidance of doubt, suspects in the custody of security agents have specifically mentioned Okorocha and Nwosu as being sponsors of kidnapping and banditry in Imo State, using their relationship with former ex-militants to perpetrate the crimes,” the statement read.

The plot by those suspected of fueling insecurity in Imo State, particularly kidnapping, banditry, arson, and cannibalism, came to a head on Monday with false news of the alleged arrest of security officers attached to Governor Hope Uzodimma ahead of the January 4, 2022 Imo Stakeholders meeting.
“It is expected that Governor Uzodimma will use the Stakeholders meeting to reveal the identities of those responsible for insecurity and other forms of criminality in Imo State.” This has piqued the interest of Imo residents, who are eager to learn who is undermining their peace and prosperity. As a result, Rochas Okorocha and Uche Nwosu’s current media frenzy appears to be reinforcing the notion of their guilt.
“To discredit the government and undermine the peace that the Governor has so far achieved, as evidenced by the large number of Imo people who returned home from all over the world for Christmas and New Year celebrations, the duo have resorted to publishing falsehood about security officers in the State Government House once again.”
