Former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

 

Tinubu emerged as a candidate at the end of the presidential primary.

Asiwaju of Lagos garnered half of the total votes to beat his major opponents, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

 

About 2,322 delegates from across the country had stormed Eagles Square, Abuja, to elect the flagbearer of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

 

While Tinubu, who doubles as the National Leader of the party, got 1,271 votes, his major opponents, Amaechi and Osinbajo secured 316 and 235 votes respectively.

 

President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan got 152 votes while the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, scored 47 votes.

 

In his acceptance speech, flagbearer of the ruling party, said that Nigerians would not regret voting for him come 2023, promising to serve the country with all his strength, while ensuring the unity of Nigeria.

 

Tinubu while giving his acceptance speech was serenaded by his jubilant supporters, governors and other party members.

 

With the current development, Tinubu will face the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and other party candidates to battle for the top political office in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
