The Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force, Alkali Usman has said the force has increased its presence along the Lagos Ibadan expressway to prevent crimes and combat issues of insecurity in the area.Alkali said 10,000 recruits are currently in the Nigeria police academy while other officers of the force are receiving various training ahead of the 2023 General Elections.
He made this known while speaking on winning the fight against insecurity: Status of internal security and update on Police reforms during the 57th session of the state house media briefing at the Presidential Villa Abuja.
However, he said that it is not advisable to withdraw all police personnel attached to VIPs in the country while stating that the police specialised services automation project (POSSAP) was set up to correct deployment issues and stop access of its services to unauthorised persons.
The IGP added that it is also a means of generating revenue for the force in order to tackle security challenges across the country.
Against the backdrop of recent attacks in rallies of political parties by suspected hoodlums, the most recent of which was the convoy of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in Borno, the Inspector General of Police disclosed that a team is being set up to thoroughly investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, the Police boss restates that as part of its many commitments to the welfare of personnel, the force has so far completed a total of 198 projects including Modern Police Stations, barracks and others across the Federation.
