The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria has raised concerns over the continuous exodus of Nigerian medical doctors to developed countries in search of greener pastures, a development which has led to non-availability of young medical experts to be trained in specialized areas.
The college President, Dr Akin Osibogun raised the concerns during the ongoing 17th Annual Scientific Conference and All Fellows Congress in Ilorin the Kwara State capital with the theme: Improving Health Care Financing in Nigeria.
The College President, Dr Akin Osibogun while raising concerns over the exodus of Nigerian medical doctors that ought to be trained to become specialists and retained in the country said only 50% of younger doctors are left in the country, a development he noted posed a great challenge for the country if not urgently addressed by government at all levels.
Dr Osibokun who insists that federal government must provide enough incentives, both financial and none-financial to retain the remaining 50% doctors advised on the need to determine equipment requirement and to ensure they are available at ward, geo-political or state levels with a view to resuscitating patients within the shortest time of medical needs.
The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria is an institution saddled with the responsibility of providing post medical education in Nigeria as well to produce medical specialists like surgeon, Opthalmologists and so on.
