The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that one of its officers, ASP Omotayo Olajide, shot two girls during an operation in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle on Thursday night, 5 November 2026, killing one of them, Omole Taiwo.

Preliminary findings indicate that Olajide was deployed after a distress call over a violent clash between two rival groups, the Nosamu Boys and the Alayabiagba Boys, over toll collection. The groups were said to be armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

During the operation, the officer discharged his firearm and the bullet hit the two girls. They were rushed to Ajeromi General Hospital, from where Taiwo was transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where she later died. The other girl is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

The Command said it was deeply saddened by the loss of a young and innocent life. It confirmed that Olajide has been disarmed and detained, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and impartial investigation to determine what happened and the appropriate legal and disciplinary action.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai has visited the bereaved family to condole with them. He assured them that the matter would be thoroughly investigated, justice would be done, and no officer found culpable would be shielded. He also urged members of the public with information to report to the nearest police station or the Command’s Public Relations Department.
