Concerned residents of Borno State and the leadership of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have called on the Federal Government to appoint a Humanitarian Minister to address the devastating flood that has ravaged the state.
They argue that appointing a minister, even in an acting capacity, is more effective than setting up committees.
In a statement, the group’s spokesperson, Dalori Ibrahim Bukar, and Sani Yahaya Buratai, demanded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appoint a Humanitarian Minister with a proven track record, such as Hajiya Halimat Tejuosho, CEO of QAT Foundation.
The group commiserated with the government and people of Borno State, urging urgent intervention to cushion the effects of the flood’s aftermath. They also warned residents to be cautious of wild animals washed away from the state zoo, posing a threat to human safety.
The group emphasized the need for swift and decisive action, stating that the survival of Borno people depends on the government’s intervention. They urged the Federal Government to mobilize resources and deploy personnel to affected areas without delay.
