The Nigerian Army has scored major victories in its ongoing fight against terrorism, armed crime, and illegal arms trafficking across various regions of the country in the month of July.
In a statement released by the Nigerian Army spokesperson, Lt .Col Appolonia Anele, It was reported that in a string of well co-ordinated, intelligence led operations, troops recorded key successes.
From neutralizing terrorists and arresting suspects to dismantling gunrunning syndicates and recovering stolen livestock.
In Sokoto State, troops of the 8 Division Garrison stationed at Tsamaye and Mai Lalle in Sabon Birni Local Government Area clashed with armed insurgents in a heavy gunfight. Two terrorists were neutralized during the exchange, forcing others to flee in disarray. Soldiers recovered three AK-47 rifles and a motorcycle from the scene, dealing a further blow to the operational capacity of the militants.
In Borno State, pressure continues to mount on terrorist groups. Two family members of insurgents, a woman and a child surrendered voluntarily to troops of the 202 Battalion in Bama. They were reportedly fleeing the CHURCHUR axis, a known terrorist enclave, signaling growing discontent and weakening morale among insurgents.
Over in Yobe State, troops of the 120 Task Force Battalion, stationed in Katarko, Gujba Local Government Area, arrested a suspicious individual attempting to infiltrate a secured perimeter. The suspect, who claimed to be from Niger Republic, couldn’t communicate in any known Nigerian language, raising red flags about possible cross-border infiltration and sparking deeper investigation.
In the North-West, the Army also disrupted a cattle rustling operation in Sauna Village, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. Acting on credible intelligence, troops of 1 Battalion Rear moved in swiftly, causing the rustlers to abandon 251 cows and flee. The recovered livestock was returned to its owners. A move that further solidifies the Army’s presence as a protector of rural communities.
Down south, a dramatic interception unfolded in Ondo State, where troops of the 323 Artillery Regiment, based in Igbara-Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area, intercepted two suspected gunrunners during an illegal weapons transaction. Shockingly, preliminary investigation linked the deal to an inmate in Kirikiri Correctional Facility, Lagos, who allegedly orchestrated the arms purchase to support violent activities in Zamfara State.
Still in the South, troops made another breakthrough in Delta State. Along the Jeddo–Omadino axis in Warri South, soldiers uncovered a tricycle packed with about 200 litres of illegally refined diesel. In a separate operation, troops of 63 Brigade Garrison raided a suspected hideout of the proscribed IPOB/ESN group in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area. Seven suspects were arrested, and items including a motorcycle and mobile phones were recovered.
These achievements highlight the Nigerian Army’s sustained momentum and tactical precision in tackling diverse security threats across the country. From the forests of the North-East to the streets of the South, the Army remains committed to restoring peace, protecting citizens, and dismantling criminal networks, one operation at a time.
As military pressure intensifies, the Army assures Nigerians that the operations will not slow down until peace and stability are fully restored across all regions.
