Medi Serve, a youth-led health initiative co-founded by Soleeha Musa-Etiko and Joy Ogunsan has continued its mission of bringing healthcare closer to underserved communities with a recent medical outreach for the elderly and transporters. The event, which took place on August 29th, 2025, at parks around Oshodi, focused on providing free eye tests and corrective lenses to beneficiaries.
According to Musa-Etiko, the initiative was born out of a passion shared by the duo and their friends to make healthcare accessible despite limited financial resources. She explained that while the outreach currently focuses on eye care, MediServe has plans to expand into other areas of healthcare in the near future. A key part of the project is to help transport operators maintain clear vision, thereby reducing road accidents and enhancing passenger safety.
Joy Ogunsan on her part, highlighted that the initiative is driven by the desire to provide sustainable healthcare solutions within communities and to inspire young girls to take bold steps in solving social problems. Though still A-level students, Musa-Etiko, Joy Ogunsan and their team have received support from family, friends and medical partners who donated the free glasses that will be distributed during the outreach.
She further expressed hopes that the MediServe initiative would extend beyond Lagos State to have global impact, while also calling on government to subsidize healthcare for underserved populations.
Beneficiaries of the program expressed gratitude to the foundation for addressing a vital health need that had previously gone unnoticed. Many of them noted improvements in their ability to go about daily activities and work more effectively after receiving medical attention.
The outreach in Oshodi reflects MediServe’s growing role in bridging healthcare gaps and empowering young people to take the lead in community development.
