The Nigeria Police Force has launched a nationwide Cybercrime Awareness Campaign through its flagship initiative, the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV). The campaign, flagged off on October 1st, will run throughout the month in commemoration of Cybercrime Awareness Month 2025.
The initiative is focused on sensitizing Nigerians, particularly young people about the risks of cybercrime, its legal consequences and the importance of safe online practices.
According to POCACOV, the campaign will feature digital awareness posts, safety tips, educational resources and advocacy messages across its official social media platforms.
Speaking on the launch, POCACOV National Coordinator, ACP Olabisi Okuwobi, highlighted the urgent need for preventive sensitization. She emphasized that cybercrime continues to endanger national security, economic stability and the future of Nigerian youth.
ACP Okuwobi reiterated that the fight against cybercrime is not only about enforcement but also about awareness, prevention and empowerment. She emphasized that through the campaign, POCACOV would equip Nigerians with the knowledge to make safe choices online, resist criminal tendencies and embrace digital responsibility.
The campaign reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to preventive policing while reinforcing POCACOV’s broader mission of curbing social vices including cultism, drug abuse, sexual and gender-based violence, human trafficking and cybercrime.
POCACOV has urged all Nigerians to join the campaign by following its social media handles, engaging with the materials and helping spread the message of cyber safety and responsibility.
Together, the police say, Nigeria can build a safer digital space for all.
