Ogun State Police say they have killed a suspected kidnap gang leader during a raid on a hideout in Orile Ilugun Forest along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway. The May 19 operation came a day after a victim abducted on May 14 at Nufats Fuel Station in Odeda was released unharmed.
Officers from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit moved in on the forest hideout at about 6 a.m. after credible intelligence. Police said the suspects opened fire on sighting them, leading to a shootout. The gang leader was neutralized while other members escaped into the bush with injuries. Recovered were an AK-47 rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition, ₦2 million cash, and two phones.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the team’s professionalism and said the command remains committed to stamping out kidnapping and violent crime in the state. The suspect’s body has been sent for autopsy as the manhunt for fleeing members continues.
