Operatives of Idiroko Division, Ogun State Police Command, led by DPO CSP Adejuwon Ariyo, have foiled a cross-border vehicle trafficking attempt and arrested two suspects over a stolen 28-seater Toyota Coaster bus. Seun Lawal, 46, a company driver, and his guarantor Ademola Oriyomi, 38, were intercepted at about 11:00 p.m. on 12 June 2026 at Babaloke, Idiroko, while preparing to smuggle the bus into Benin Republic for illegal disposal. The vehicle had earlier been declared stolen in Lagos.
Acting on credible intelligence, CSP Ariyo mobilized a surveillance team and intercepted the suspects mid-operation. Police demobilized the bus by shooting one of its tyres to prevent it from crossing the border. The swift action led to the arrest of both suspects and recovery of the vehicle at the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed Lawal conspired with Oriyomi to steal and sell the bus abroad, with proceeds meant to fund their relocation after the illegal deal.
CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commended the professionalism and tactical precision of Idiroko Division operatives for the intelligence-led interception and recovery. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and strengthened border security to deny criminals freedom of action in Ogun State and its border corridors. The suspects remain in custody as investigation continues to uncover possible links to wider cross-border vehicle theft syndicates.
