NDLEA has arrested 41-year-old São Paulo-based businessman Abugu Oliver Ikechukwu at MMIA, Lagos on Thursday, 11 June 2026, for smuggling 6.10kg of liquid cocaine into Nigeria. The drug was hidden in 14 shirts and towels that were soaked, dried, and ironed. Abugu, who runs an African restaurant in Brazil and says he was in Nigeria to visit his wife and buy foodstuff, was picked up on arrival from Addis Ababa aboard Ethiopian Airways.
NDLEA operations across the country also led to the arrest of a 60-year-old woman living with disability, Chidimma Sunday, in Abia with 1.8kg skunk on 10 June, and a 28-year-old PWD, Abubakar Usman, in Rivers with tramadol, meth, skunk, swinol, and diazepam on 9 June. Other seizures include 2.8kg ‘Loud’ cannabis concealed in gas cylinders in Delta; 2.738kg skunk from two dealers in Gombe; 6,000 tramadol pills in Kano; 304kg skunk in 600 blocks intercepted in Kwara; 1,121.5kg cannabis from a warehouse in Taraba; assorted pills and 592 bottles of codeine syrup in FCT; and 1,102kg Ghana Loud cannabis at Alaba Market, Lagos on 13 June.
The Agency pushed its WADA advocacy in the past week with sensitization for students, staff, traditional rulers, and communities in Nasarawa, Enugu, Lagos, Kano, Anambra, and Rivers. NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended officers of MMIA, Abia, Rivers, Kano, Kwara, Delta, Gombe, Lagos, Taraba, and FCT Commands for the arrests and seizures, and charged them to keep balancing drug supply reduction with prevention efforts while raising the bar on performance.
