Major General Adebayo Babalola, GOC 81 Division Nigerian Army, has urged participants in the 81 Division Inter-Brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Combat Proficiency Competition 2026 to maintain discipline, professionalism and excellence. Speaking Monday, 15 June 2026 at the opening ceremony in 192 Battalion Parade Ground, Owode-Yewa, Ogun State, the GOC, represented by Division Training Officer Brig Gen HM Bello, said the contest is a vital platform for assessing competence, reinforcing standards and improving operational effectiveness across the Division.

Maj Gen Babalola described WOs and SNCOs as the bedrock of military discipline and the critical link between officers and soldiers. He noted the competition will test leadership, military knowledge, physical fitness and performance under pressure, while also promoting camaraderie and sharing of best practices among formations. He directed participants to compete with integrity, sportsmanship and strict adherence to procedures, stressing that standards will not be compromised.

Earlier, Commander 81 Division Garrison Brig Gen AI Getso, represented by Acting CO Admin Battalion Maj SS Maikasuwa, said the event was designed to build leadership skills, professional competence, esprit de corps and combat readiness in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy. He appreciated the GOC for the support and for assigning the Garrison to host. The ceremony had senior officers, officers, warrant officers and senior NCOs in attendance, with highlights including inspection of contingents and the Chief Umpire administering the oath of impartiality.
