The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, has restated her commitment to the welfare of police families with a two-day outreach to barracks in the Federal Capital Territory. The visits to Area C Police Barracks, Nyanya, and 44 PMF Barracks, Kuje, were done without prior notice as part of activities leading to the POWA National Convention holding July 16–18, 2026.
During the visits, Mrs. Disu interacted with women traders, widows and wives of serving officers, and observed that many businesses were struggling due to limited capital. In response, she provided cash support, business grants, food items and starter packs to help beneficiaries restock and grow their trades. She said the unannounced approach allowed her to see the real challenges firsthand, adding that the intervention is part of the POWA CARES Initiative focused on healthcare, welfare and economic empowerment, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Beneficiaries hailed the gesture. Abigail John, Rebecca Atahiru — a widow of a fallen officer — and Grace Ameh, an egg trader, all expressed gratitude for the direct support. Mrs. Disu noted that the outreach mirrors the convention theme, “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace,” which will prioritize healthcare, mental wellness and economic support for police families across Nigeria.
