The Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos Sector Command, says its rescue teams are on ground at Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway following multiple crashes in the early hours of Friday, 24th July 2026. The first incident happened at about 12:05 a.m. on the outbound lane toward Ibadan and involved five articulated trucks and a Toyota Sienna. Preliminary investigation points to speed violation and loss of control. Seven adult males were involved, one died, one sustained injuries and five escaped unhurt. The deceased’s body is currently trapped under one of the loaded trucks, and heavy-duty equipment has been deployed to evacuate it.
A second crash occurred at about 3:15 a.m. on the inbound lane toward Lagos. A Mazda commercial bus suffered brake failure and crashed, leaving the driver seriously injured. FRSC operatives rescued him and rushed him to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre. FRSC, LASEMA and other emergency agencies are working to clear the wreckage, recover the trapped victim and reopen the road for free traffic flow.
Corps Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, Lagos Sector Commander, commiserated with the families of the victims and appealed to motorists to be patient and cooperate with officials at the scene. To avoid delays along the Kara – Ojodu Berger corridor, road users heading to Ibadan are advised to divert via Ikorodu-Sagamu, while those coming into Lagos can use Lekki-Epe or Ikorodu-Sagamu expressways. The Command also cautioned drivers, especially of trucks and commercial buses, to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy with functional brakes, avoid night trips and fatigue driving, maintain safe speed and distance, and stop to rest when tired.
