Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have smashed a major drug syndicate and intercepted narcotics worth over N10 billion in a series of raids across Lagos and northern states. At the Lagos airport, 55-year-old Balogun market businessman Onuigbo Ndubisi Chinedu was picked up on 23rd July 2026 while trying to export 3.30kg of cocaine hidden in food cartons to the UK. His arrest followed the interception of the consignment on 22nd July and led to three cargo agents and one Kenneth Okakpu. Also in Lagos, 31-year-old Emmanuella Chukwu-Edo was arrested in Surulere on 21st July after NDLEA seized 2.80kg of “Loud” shipped from the US to her home.
At Apapa seaport, a container examination on 20th July revealed 2,388.5kg of Canadian Loud worth over N7.1 billion concealed inside three vehicles. At the same airport, NDLEA recovered 2.24 billion tablets of Tapentadol 250mg valued at over N2.2 billion from an Air Maroc flight from India on 24th July, and intercepted tramadol packed in black soap containers headed for the UK two days earlier. In Kaduna and Katsina, two suspects were arrested with ammunition: Mustapha Sani, 30, was caught with 323 rounds in Katsina, while Abubakar Amadu, 30, had 73 rounds hidden in palm oil kegs on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway. Both have been handed over for further investigation.
In Edo State, NDLEA raided Ilushi community on 19th July and seized 1,286kg of cannabis and 86kg of seeds, arresting two suspects in the process. The Agency also sustained its War Against Drug Abuse campaign with lectures in schools and communities across Niger, Kano and Lagos. NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended the DOGI, MMIA, Apapa, Edo, Kaduna and Katsina Commands and urged officers nationwide to keep up the balanced approach to drug control.
