The President of the Police Officers Wives Association, Chief Mrs Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu, has charged Nigerian youths to take ownership of environmental protection and community service as key contributions to nation-building. She made the call during the NPF International Youth Day 2026 Tree-Planting Exercise, where she led members of the Police family to plant 50 tree seedlings donated by the Federal Ministry of Environment. The exercise was held under the theme “PLANT PEACE. GROW NIGERIA. SECURE THE FUTURE.”
Mrs Disu said environmental responsibility cannot be left to government alone. She noted that young Nigerians will bear the long-term impact of today’s environmental choices and must therefore be at the forefront of protecting and restoring the environment. She urged youths to go beyond symbolism by planting trees, keeping their communities clean, reducing pollution, conserving resources, and educating peers. According to her, a degraded environment threatens health, livelihoods and security, making sustainability a core part of national safety.
The POWA President was joined by wives of senior Police officers, including wives of DIGs Achinyan, Isyaku, Fayoade and Nadada, in a demonstration of the Police family’s support for youth development and civic responsibility. She appreciated the Federal Ministry of Environment for the seedlings and called on schools and youth groups to integrate environmental stewardship into their programmes. “Plant something. Protect something. Build something,” she told young Nigerians, adding that the same care needed to nurture a tree is needed to nurture peace and Nigeria’s future.
