LAGOS — The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, POCACOV, Lagos State Command, marked the International Day of Charity with a sensitization and mentorship session at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, Ikeja. Welcomed by the Centre’s Principal, Mr. Basiru Iyapo, the team delivered the programme under the leadership of CP Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, with a focus on values, decision-making, and personal development for the boys in custody.
Experts led interactive discussions on key issues affecting young people. Dr. Hezekiah Akinlade of LASUTH spoke on the physical and mental effects of substance abuse, Mrs. Oguntoye Olabode addressed the impact of bullying, and Pastor Richard Minet encouraged the boys on growth and building a productive future. The session also tackled cultism, drug abuse, gang involvement and negative peer influence, urging the teens to embrace discipline, education, and skills acquisition while seeing their current situation as a phase, not a life sentence.
Lagos POCACOV Coordinator, SP Olivia Amarachi Ugochukwu, Esq., told the boys that correction is meant for reflection and growth, not punishment. She urged them not to be defined by past mistakes, but to rebuild through positive choices, learning and character development. According to her, with the right mindset they can become responsible and productive citizens. The outreach reaffirmed POCACOV’s commitment to crime prevention through advocacy, mentorship, and value reorientation for young people.
