The NDLEA and the UAE’s National Drug Enforcement Authority have signed an MoU to boost joint action against drug trafficking.
Signed Saturday in Abu Dhabi on the sidelines of the 15th UN Crime Prevention Congress, the deal will enhance intelligence sharing and joint operations. NDLEA Chairman, Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), said NDLEA intercepted 354.7kg of illicit drugs bound for the UAE between 2021 and 2026, arresting 47 suspects.
He said the Agency has in five years arrested over 91,000 suspects, seized 15.5 million kg of drugs, secured 16,469 convictions and reached 5.9 million Nigerians with anti-drug advocacy. UAE’s NDEA Chairman, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, described the MoU as key to dismantling trafficking networks along the Nigeria-UAE route.
