The Association of Defence Correspondents of Nigeria (ADCON), Lagos, has called for a closer, structured professional relationship with the 81 Division, Nigerian Army, to promote accurate and balanced reporting of security operations.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Division’s headquarters, ADCON President, Philip Nwosu, said the association was formed to provide a credible platform for journalists covering defence and security, noting that defence reporting requires understanding of military operations and the balance between public information and operational sensitivity. He said the 81 Division is strategic due to its responsibility covering Lagos and Ogun states, with implications for millions of Nigerians.
Nwosu clarified that ADCON is not seeking preferential access to sensitive information but open, professional engagement to obtain credible, timely information and reduce misinformation during operations, assuring that members will uphold ethics and respect legitimate security considerations while highlighting troops’ sacrifices, humanitarian and civil-military activities.
