Ahead 2023: NSA Restates Commitment To a Peaceful, Credible Polls
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno, has assured that the 2023 general elections in the country would hold in an atmosphere devoid of violence and malpractices.
Monguno, who dismissed speculations over the conduct of the elections amidst rising insecurity in the country, assured that president Muhammed Buhari, is bent on providing a secured environment for the 2023 elections
The NSA spoke at the opening of the workshop on election security management organized by the Nigerian police force in collaboration with Solar Security and Consult Company Limited in Abuja.
In his address, the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, said, election security governance is critical to the advancement of democratic culture across the free world, according to him in Nigeria, by virtue of the Electoral Act 2022 (As amended), the Nigeria Police Force is the lead agency in the election security process complemented by the Military, Intelligence community, and other security and safety agencies.
He said the import of this is that the success of every election is determined not just by the strength of the legal framework regulating the course, but by a few other key variables.
Also speaking, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor, assured of the readiness of the Nigerian armed forces to support the police by providing the necessary security for free, fair and secured general elections.
The CDS, who commended the police for the workshop, said that to every Nigerian and friends of Nigeria, there are two principal desires that they have and are mainly security and a free, fair and secured conduct for the 2023 general elections.
He said that as members of the armed forces, they give support to the civil authorities in that regard. And the police being the lead internal security position, the entire leadership of the armed forces is there to give her support.
Correspondent, Aviashima Toom reports that, the workshop which lasted for two days is expected to guarantee professional service delivery by the Nigeria Police Force and to ensure strong inter-agency synergy that will engender a peaceful, secure, and credible elections in 2023 in line with Mr. President’s vision.
