The Nigerian Army has clarified the arrest of blogger and social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere (Justice Crack), alongside some soldiers over complaints regarding troops’ feeding and welfare posted online. In a statement signed by Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele on 2 May 2026, the Army said the matter is being investigated for breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and an attempt to misinform the public.

According to the preliminary report, the soldiers discussed a wide range of issues with Chidiebere, who allegedly seemed to be inciting them to create discontent within the system. The Army cited a chat bordering on subversion between Chidiebere and the soldiers, stressing that a situation where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel toward acts of subversion has far-reaching implications on discipline and national security. Chidiebere was picked up alongside the soldiers for investigation.

While the soldiers remain in military custody, Chidiebere has been handed over to relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution. Colonel Anele reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the rule of law and collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served, adding that the Army will continue to act within the ambits of the law in safeguarding national sovereignty.
