Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested an 83-year-old grandfather, Pa John Ofiel, and a 78-year-old grandpa, Ogunjobi Samuel, among other suspects in a nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking. Pa Ofiel was nabbed on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, during a raid at Samek by Powerline, Aba, Abia State, where 700 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets were recovered. The octogenarian said he was a professional shoemaker before venturing into the drug trade. In Ekiti, Ogunjobi Samuel was arrested on Thursday, 30 April at his H22 Owode Street residence, Ilupeju-Ekiti, with 350 grams of the same substance.

The NDLEA also recorded major busts across other states. In Oyo, Rebecca King, 24, and Olaniyan Opeyemi, 31, were arrested over 1.925kg of Colorado, a synthetic cannabis, while notorious dealer Taofik Adeyemi, 49, was nabbed in Ibadan with 3.085kg of skunk and a Toyota Camry after months of evading arrest. Osun operatives intercepted 7kg of skunk and 15 grams of methamphetamine with driver Oladayo Awoyemi, 65, leading to the arrest of owner Ifedayo Babalola, 40. Raids in Borno yielded 76,440 pills of Tramadol from Yahaya Shehu, 27, and 14,000 capsules from truck driver Magaji Isa, 30. Kaduna operatives seized 290kg of skunk from Ojo Major Ebose, 36, and Chika Obiechefula, 32, while 49,800 capsules of Tramadol were recovered in Jigawa from Ahmed Garba, 50, and Sale Mohammed, 41. In Lagos, 740kg of skunk was recovered at Awolowo market, Mushin, and in Edo, Godstime Godspower, 25, was arrested with assorted drugs including Loud, Colorado, Tramadol, Swinol, and methamphetamine.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers in Abia, Ekiti, Edo, Borno, Kaduna, Jigawa, Oyo, Osun, and Lagos for the arrests and seizures, noting their drug supply reduction efforts are balanced with War Against Drug Abuse sensitization in schools, worship centres, and communities. Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said the Agency will sustain the current tempo across the country.
