Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, the governor of Bauchi State, kicked off the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine booster dose in the state on Wednesday.

Senator Baba Tela, who represented Governor Abdulkadir and spoke shortly after receiving the booster shot at the Government House in Bauchi, stressed the importance of the people coming to terms with the existence of COVID-19 and coming out of self-denial.

Since the pandemic’s onset, he said, the administration has done everything possible to contain it by limiting its spread across the state and ensuring effective tracing and treatment.

He also stated that the state government would not stop until the entire population of the state had been effectively vaccinated against the virus.

Dr. Samaila Dahuwa, the state Commissioner for Health, said the state had made progress in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 by putting in place adequate surveillance mechanisms.

Meanwhile, the state’s deputy governor has expressed concern about the state’s frequent road crashes, which have claimed many lives and left others disabled, claiming that the majority of the accidents are caused by human error.

Tela also described the state’s road crashes as a cankerworm that has been wreaking havoc on the people.

The deputy governor made the remarks while inaugurating the Bauchi State Road Safety Advisory Council in his office on Thursday, saying that immediate action is needed to combat the problem.

He explained that the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy II (2021-2030) is an update to the previous Road Safety Strategy and Nigeria’s response to a United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution from March 2020 declaring the Global Decade of Action for Road Safety from 2011 to 2020 for global road safety action.
