Honorable Kevin Eluemunor Okwechime, a leader known for his transformational approach, has consistently exhibited an aptitude for leadership and dedication to service from a young age. He was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Okwechime in Ikoko Quarters, Onicha-Ugbo, within the Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, 55 years ago.
Okwechime’s educational journey began at Aniemeka Primary School in Onicha-Ugbo, where he earned his first school leaving certificate in 1980. He continued his secondary education at St. Pius Xth Grammar School, Onicha-Ugbo, from 1980 to 1986, where his outstanding leadership qualities were recognized, culminating in his appointment as the Senior Prefect of the school. Furthering his education, he attended Anwar-ul-Islam College in Agege, Lagos.
His academic pursuits led him to the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State, where he graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Banking and finance in 1997. That same year, he fulfilled his national service obligation under the National Youth Service Corps. Still driven by a thirst for knowledge, Okwechime enrolled at the University of Calabar, obtaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Management in 1998, followed by an Executive Master’s in Management between 2000 and 2021.
After a brief stint working as a graduate in several organizations, Okwechime ventured into the business world as a contractor, where he achieved considerable success. However, his passion for public service led him to politics, and in 2014, he ran for the position of Councillor for Ward 2, Onicha-Ugbo, under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His political aspirations bore fruit as he was elected to the Legislative Arm of Aniocha North Local Government.
His leadership skills were further acknowledged when he was nominated and subsequently elected as the Leader of the House, serving his full tenure in this capacity. In March 2021, Okwechime’s commitment to his community propelled him to run for the office of Executive Chairman of the Aniocha North Local Government. His campaign was successful, and he was elected by the people, officially taking office on the 8th day of March, 2021.
During his approximately 31-month tenure as Executive Chairman, Honorable Kevin Okwechime dedicated himself to transforming the council area. He spearheaded proactive initiatives, focusing on the development of infrastructure tailored to the people’s needs and nurturing human capital across various communities within the area.
