OWODE-YEWA — Not every visit to a police station is about crime. On 13 September 2026, Precious Mathew from Ogooluwa, behind Owode Market, walked into the Owode-Yewa Police Division seeking help with a hospital bill she had no means to clear.
Precious had a Caesarean Section at Longe Hospital Medical Centre, Sabo, on 30 June 2026, and heartbreakingly lost her baby. The hospital bill stood at ₦400,000. She had paid ₦100,000, leaving ₦300,000 outstanding. The case was escalated to the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Olubode Bode Ojajuni who reached out to the attending doctor, Dr Babanki Samuel, and urged consideration for the woman’s painful situation.
Moved by the circumstances, Dr Samuel waived the full ₦300,000 balance and discharged Precious without payment. No arguments, no threats — just a police-facilitated conversation that made room for empathy. The Ogun State Police Command applauded Dr Samuel for his act of humanity. For Precious, the bill was more than money; it was weight added to grief. On this day, the police listened, the CP intervened, and a doctor chose compassion — lifting a burden from a grieving mother.
