Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat has advised Nigerians to shun all forms of anger, hatred and work together with their leaders to set the nation on a better pedestal of development.
The Deputy Governor who gave this admonition today after observing the Eid- el-Fitri Prayer at Dodan Barracks Praying Ground, Obalende, Lagos, the Deputy said it is high time every Nigerian should work towards setting the nation on a better pedestal of development rather than wallow in anger, hatred, bitterness which will would not augur well for the country.
He added that citizens should also relate with one another with the fear of God, avoiding hatred and they should support their leaders in making the country a better place for all to live. He said, ”We should get down to work and look away from anger and think of how to make the country work with our leaders”.
Speaking further, Dr. Hamzat called on Nigerian leaders to always relate with the citizens with the fear of God which is in line with the teachings of the Holy Quran. He added that they should bear in mind that governance is a stewardship which would be accounted for on the last day. He therefore charged them to do their best in ensuring that they enhance the living and wellbeing of Nigerians.
Dr. Hamzat said, “As leaders we all should do well and know that it is everyone that will give account of how they have lived their lives and it is high time that we all need to do our best well as parents, leaders and citizens”.
While congratulating all Muslims for witnessing the end of Ramadan, the Deputy Governor tasked them to always be put into practice, lessons learnt during Ramadan which include fear for Allah, compassion and love for everyone, providing for one another, been careful with utterances, actions to others and understand that at the end of the day, everyone will give account of their stewardship in life and God will judge.
Earlier in his sermon, the Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheihk Sulaimon Abu-Nollah stated that Leadership and Governance is a call by God and everyone will definitely give account of their stewardship to Allah.
He stated that Political leaders should always remember that being elected into office is a divine call and as such should deliver on their mandate accordingly in the fear of God. The chief Imam thereafter prayed for the peace and harmony in Lagos State and Nigeria.
