Lagos — The Lagos State Deputy Governor and APC Governorship Candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Babatunde Hassan, popularly known as “Ogogo,” following his passing. In a statement issued today, Dr. Hamzat described the death as a painful and irreplaceable loss to the family and to Nigeria as a whole.
The Deputy Governor noted that Ogogo was a cultural icon whose career spanned over four decades and helped shape and popularise Yoruba-language cinema both locally and internationally. “Ogogo was more than an entertainer; he was a custodian of our culture and tradition, who used his craft to project the rich heritage of the Yoruba people to the world,” he said. He added that the actor’s legacy will live on through his numerous films and creative works that entertained, educated and inspired generations.
Dr. Hamzat extended heartfelt sympathies to Ogogo’s wives, children, the Yoruba film industry and the wider Nollywood community, praying to God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest and to give loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss. He also commended the resilience shown by the actor and his family during his illness, and prayed for continued growth in the Nigerian entertainment industry and for Ogogo’s legacy to inspire upcoming talents.
