Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu I, at Iga Idunganran Palace. The engagement was aimed at reinforcing the relationship between government and traditional institutions. Dr. Hamzat paid homage to the monarch and acknowledged the role of traditional rulers in preserving cultural values, fostering peace and promoting unity across Lagos communities. He noted that the state’s progress is rooted in respect for heritage and the wisdom of its traditional institutions.
The Deputy Governor also visited the historic Ègbè Family House, one of Lagos’ notable heritage sites reflecting the city’s ancestral legacy. He stressed the importance of preserving historical landmarks and promoting cultural consciousness among younger generations. Speaking during the visits, Dr. Hamzat reiterated the administration’s commitment to safeguarding Lagos’ cultural identity while pursuing inclusive development and modernization. He said culture and tradition remain essential pillars for social cohesion, community development and responsible leadership.
