Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has stated that his administration would continue to partner with the Judiciary to facilitate quick dispensation of justice in the state.
The Governor stated this today while speaking at the Special Jumaat Service for the commencement of the Lagos State Judiciary 2022/2023 Legal Year held at the Lagos Central Mosque, Nnamdi Azikiwe Street, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat noted that his government has been supporting the judiciary owing to the critical role the arm plays in ensuring law and order as well the protection of rights of every citizen in State.
While describing the relationship between three arms of government in the state “as partnership that works”, the governor reaffirms that his government would continue to provide conducive working environment for the judiciary to thrive and ensure quick dispensation of justice in the state.
He emphasized that quick dispensation of justice is a function of everybody in the value chain to make sure that they do the right thing.
Sanwo-Olu noted that there is synergy between the executive and judiciary and the Judiciary arm in Lagos State is independent of other arms.
In his address, the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Kazeem Alogba commended the State Government for the support the Judiciary has continued to enjoy in terms of infrastructure and logistics which has enhance service delivery in the judicial sector of the state.
He thanked the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat for their support and promptness toward judicial matters in the state.
Earlier in his opening remark, the Bashorun Musulumi of Lagos, Alhaji Sikiru Alabi Macfoy admonished the judiciary to hate injustice just as the Almighty Allah hates it and urged them to discharge their duties with utmost sense of fairness and in fear of Allah.
The Guest Lecture, Dr. Ishaq Sanusi, in his lecture titled “Dispensation of Justice: Panacea to Dwindling Economy and Political Instability in Nigeria” stressed the need to empower the judiciary and make it independent in order to bring back justice in the country as the nation cannot have security and buoyant economy if there is injustice.
He further stated that judges should device new ways of tackling issues such as backlog of cases, prison congestion and delay in handling cases through endless adjournment noting that these were some of the factors mitigating against fair and responsive system of justice in Nigeria.
