The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has revoked the licences of 52 broadcast organisations over failure to renew their broadcast licences totaling N2.6 billion.

Director General of the NBC Balarabe Ilelah disclosed this at the press briefing, which was held at the National Headquarters of the commission today in Abuja.

Ilelah directed its state offices to liaise with security agencies to ensure the shut down of the operation of affected stations within the next 24 hours.

Ilelah explained that the broadcast stations indebted to the commission comprised both private and states own television and radio stations, adding that part of their indebtedness was in the failures to renew their license with the commission over the years.

He said similar treatment would be meted out to other station operators who refused to pay their licence fees to the commission.

The affected broadcast stations still have 30 days to come up with the payment plans or risk the commission’s big hammer.
