Operatives of the NDLEA have intercepted 4,173.5kg of Canadian Loud, a high-potency cannabis strain valued at N10.4bn, at Tincan Island Port in Lagos. The seizure followed a two-month surveillance operation on the container, which left Toronto on 28 March and passed through Morocco before arriving in Lagos on 9 May 2026. During a joint examination with Customs and other agencies on 12 May, the drugs were found concealed in a Ford bus and a Mercedes Benz C300 inside the container.
The operation was carried out by NDLEA’s Marine Intelligence Unit and Tincan Island Strategic Command, working with the UK Home Office International Operations, US DEA, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It came just four days after a separate raid in Lekki where 2,326kg of the same substance worth N5.8bn was recovered from a mansion. NDLEA’s Director of Seaports Operations, ACG Ibinabo ArchieAbia, said the seizure shows the impact of inter-agency cooperation and intelligence-led action against transnational drug trafficking.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the officers for their vigilance, saying the back-to-back seizures point to a coordinated attempt by international syndicates to flood Nigeria with synthetic cannabis. He warned that the growing synergy between NDLEA, Customs, and foreign partners would continue until the entire supply chain is dismantled and those behind the shipments are prosecuted.
