The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a recent online publication alleging that it criminalised a civil tenancy dispute in Ajuwon, describing the report as misleading and a distortion of facts. The Command said the matter was a reported case of assault and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, filed on 9 April 2026 by a family member of the victim following an altercation with tenants over electricity.
According to the police, all parties were lawfully invited, statements were taken, and the case was handled at the divisional level in line with due process. The individuals involved were granted administrative bail, and the complainant later withdrew the case through a written letter after an amicable resolution. The Command stressed that no one was unlawfully detained and that all actions complied with constitutional procedures.
The police clarified that the investigation was based on a criminal complaint of assault and breach of peace, not a civil tenancy enforcement issue as portrayed in the publication. It cautioned against deliberate misrepresentation of lawful police actions, noting that such narratives undermine public confidence in due process, and urged the public to rely only on verified information from official police channels.
