Peter Obi vows to create fair representation between the rich, poor
Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, has stated that, if elected in 2023, his administration would reimagine a country where the wealthy and the poor are equally and fairly represented.
Obi declared that he would establish a society in which the needs of the people came before political considerations and where there was the bare minimum of mistrust between the governed and the government.
At the 95th anniversary of the Queens College Lagos Old Girls Association, he said the aforementioned thing over the weekend.
The LP standard bearer promised to ensure the representation of women in his administration, recalling that when he served as governor of Anambra state, his administration achieved a close to 60-40 gender balance in elective and appointed positions, whereas the proportion of women in federal government was between 30 and 35 percent.
He gave the women comfort by saying that his administration “intends to gradually aim for between 35 and 40%, with aggressive gender mainstreaming action plan and rigid benchmarks.”
He stated that he would pursue a Marshal plan-style education program that includes required technical and vocational skills, sports, entrepreneurship, programming, and digital skills from the primary to the secondary level. He also declared that education is a key component of his government’s policy agenda.
In order to significantly lower unemployment and insecurity, he added, “And ‘Inevitably, we will improve access to finance, MSMEs, youths, and women.”
The former governor of Anambra state said, “We will implement a mandatory ‘no child left behind’ educational policy, mindful that Nigeria’s inadequate investment in the social sectors – health, education, and housing – has resulted in the current depressing social and demographic trends reflected in low life expectancy, high maternal mortality rate, large numbers of out-of-school children, huge unmet housing needs, as well as high youth unemployment.

Our government shall place a high priority on education to fulfill the following purposes: technical and industry relevance; alignment with local comparative advantages and factor endowments; modern skills proficiency, critical thinking, ethical citizenship values, global competitiveness, and talent export.
Obi intends to “prioritise a structured approach to developing the digital skills of our young population to give them the competitive advantage to receive offshore jobs in the new gig economy, while also improving the efficiency and productivity level of our economy” as part of his other plans.
“If elected President of Nigeria, the Obi-Datti administration will maintain national development. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) shall serve as the foundation for our governance principles, priority projects, and programs.
Obi emphasized that he intends to stop the underrepresentation of important societal groups in decision-making, such as women, youth, and the vulnerable among us, by stating that experience has shown that inclusiveness is a crucial component of effective public policy making.
If elected, he would “from inception, encourage investment in infrastructure, energy, transport, irrigation, and telecoms and education with gender mainstreaming and social inclusion in education, enterprise, and politics will always be a priority,” the candidate told the Queens College Old Girls.
