The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Lagos State Command, held a sensitisation programme for over 2,000 students in the Igbo-Owu/Mushin axis on Thursday, 14 May 2026. The event brought together students from Igbo-Owu Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, Community Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, and Euba Junior and Senior Secondary Schools as part of efforts to tackle cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices among youths.
The programme focused on educating students about the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, and violence, while promoting discipline, self-worth, and responsible decision-making. Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ayanwale Ayodeji, Divisional Police Officer of Mushin Division, warned of the long-term consequences of cultism and substance abuse, urging students to report suspicious activities and resist negative influences. “If you see something, say something,” he told them.
Speakers also emphasised personal responsibility and positive peer influence. POCACOV Deputy Chairman Ogunyemi Abimbola encouraged students to uphold good morals and remember that their choices today will shape Nigeria’s future. MO Adeniran of Education District VI used the term “Egbon Adugbo” to illustrate how seemingly supportive figures can draw youths into crime, advising students to choose friendships that foster academic success and discipline.
Lagos State POCACOV Coordinator Superintendent of Police ( SP) Olivia Ugochukwu stressed the importance of resilience and self-confidence in rejecting peer pressure. The programme ended with students pledging to uphold good conduct, avoid social vices, and contribute positively to their communities.
