Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 38-year-old South African, Ms. Will Jessica Ann, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with 5.75kg of heroin concealed in 14 blocks inside her luggage. She was picked up on July 6, 2026, during the inward screening of Qatar Airways flight QR 1433 from Doha, where she allegedly used her three-year-old son as cover to beat security checks. The suspect initially denied owning any checked-in bags, but NDLEA said bag tags matching her passport claim tags linked her to the two bags. Investigations show she traveled from Cambodia via Doha and is linked to a transnational drug network operated with her partner, Jan Coenraad De Jager, along the Cambodia–South Africa route.
In Lagos, NDLEA officers at MMIA Terminal 2 arrested a 48-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Onyechere Daniel Chinadu, on June 28 after he arrived from Madagascar via Addis Ababa. A search of his checked-in backpack revealed 87 wraps of methamphetamine, and under excretion observation he expelled 13 more pellets, bringing the total to 100 wraps weighing 1.715kg. The suspect said he ingested the drugs in Uganda after being recruited by a friend, and was rerouted to Lagos after being denied entry in Madagascar. At Apapa seaport, a joint inspection by NDLEA, Customs and other agencies on July 10 uncovered 8,287 nylon bags of Canadian Loud weighing 4,143.5kg, with an estimated street value of over N10.3 billion. The container had been tracked from Montreal. The agency also intercepted 2.5kg of skunk hidden in a gas compressor bound for Cyprus through a courier firm in Lagos.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers of DOGI, MMIA, NAIA, MIU and Apapa Commands for the arrests and seizures. He noted that the agency is combining drug supply reduction with War Against Drug Abuse sensitization across schools, worship centers and communities. Recent WADA activities include lectures in Ebonyi, Kano, Ekiti and Ogun, and an advocacy visit to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara. Marwa charged personnel nationwide to sustain the tempo and build on the gains recorded.
