The Delta State Police Command has arrested 81 suspects in an intelligence-led raid on criminal hotspots across Asaba metropolis. The operation, conducted on 24th July 2026, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and deployed tactical teams to identified flashpoints. Of the 81 suspects arrested, 50 are male and 31 are female. The sweep forms part of the Command’s ongoing strategy to dismantle criminal networks and deny offenders safe havens in the state.
Those arrested were linked to offences including the sale and possession of suspected illicit drugs, and the running of an illegal checkpoint at the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge. Police also recovered large quantities of Tramadol and substances suspected to be Indian hemp. In addition, five vehicles were impounded for violations such as operating an unauthorised taxi park at Pinnacle Junction along Okpanam Road and facilitating the distribution of suspected drugs. All suspects and exhibits remain in custody as investigations continue.
Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi said the Command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing and proactive crime prevention. He warned that anyone involved in criminal activity should desist or face prosecution, adding that similar operations will be sustained to ensure public safety across Delta State.
