Leaked petitions have cleared AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh of allegations that he used police to frame businessman Hammeed Tajudeen Akanbi and take over land in Victoria Garden City. The documents show officers were deployed for lawful enforcement after developers petitioned the IGP on December 5, 2025 and the then Lagos CP Jimoh on January 20, 2026 over threats to life, breach of trust and extortion. The complainants, who hold a Contract of Sale and Lagos State Consent from a 2022 settlement, accused Akanbi of fraudulently taking over 40 plots in Orchid, Alpha Beach and Agungi between 2019 and 2020, and later attacking the site with thugs after collecting ₦1.5 billion. Photos attached to the petitions showed graffiti on the fence claiming “THIS LAND IS NOT FOR SALE” and ownership by the Ojomu royal family.
Jimoh, now AIG in charge of Zone 2 Lagos, has also faced online accusations of corruption over the 2023 murder of Sheriff Ishola and the 2024 killing of Demola Akinloye in Ajiran, where Akanbi was named a principal suspect. Police sources said two arrested suspects implicated Akanbi, who was later declared wanted and returned by INTERPOL. Sources close to the VGC petitioners said they did not know Jimoh before filing and that he acted without demanding money or land. “The property belongs to the petitioners. Police stopped Akanbi’s attempt to grab it,” a source said. Jimoh has urged anyone with evidence to present it in court and insisted no blackmail will stop him from doing his job.
On claims linking him to the investigation of singer Mohbad’s death, police sources dismissed them as baseless. Mohbad died in 2023 and the case moved from a Lagos Coroner to FCID Abuja before Jimoh became CP Lagos on February 18, 2025. “He never investigated Mohbad’s case and had no links to it,” a source stated, noting Jimoh only addressed protesters at the Command and explained that police powers end once a matter is in court. The AIG maintained that police have evidence strong enough to stand trial against Akanbi and his associates.
