The US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for its recent operational achievements and assured of continued support. INL Nigeria Country Director, Mr. Derek Tolliver, made this known on Thursday, August 20, 2026, during a visit to NDLEA headquarters in Abuja with a delegation from the US Government Accountability Office. He said the meeting was to build on existing programmes and sustain the momentum recorded under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd).
Marwa thanked the US Government and INL for their consistent support, noting that INL had been integral to NDLEA’s progress. He recalled that vehicles donated by INL in 2021 were distributed to commands nationwide, and that INL’s support also helped modernize the forensic lab in Lagos and establish new ones in Abuja and Enugu. Citing a recent operation in Ogun State, he said forensic equipment provided by INL was used to identify precursor chemicals at a dismantled meth lab in a forest, including one used for fentanyl production. “Without these modern tools, that would have gone unnoticed,” he said, stressing that the discovery highlights the evolving nature of drug threats.
The NDLEA chairman called for more assistance in logistics and training to further strengthen the Agency’s capacity. Tolliver responded that INL remains committed to working closely with NDLEA and will follow up with the team at the US Embassy in Abuja to advance joint programme goals. He praised NDLEA’s growth and visibility in recent months, describing the Agency’s performance as “phenomenal” under Marwa’s leadership.
